Carer Support & User Involvement Groups


The Department of Health in 2008 identified that NHS professionals believe that involving communities in decisions about care and listening to their experiences is an essential step to improving service.

In February 2009 the Carers Support Group was established at the hospice, with the idea to offer more formal support to carers of people with life-threatening diseases. Meetings are held at the House alternate Thursdays.   The group content is divided into two types of sessions. The first being a drop in informal discussion facilitated by David Harron. The second being a structured multi-professional presentation provided by service leaders of specialist palliative care services and speakers representing other interested local organisations.

The DoKH User Involvement Group, again facilitated by David has the aim of identifying and supporting issues appropriate to the specialist care services provided at DoKH.
