We would like to say a big thank you to Andrew Newsham who has raised over £1000 for Duchess of Kent House Charity. Andrew, along with some friends, took part in the Dorset Dash; a 100 mile cycle ride from Oxford to Bournemouth, on 30th and 31st July. Never having cycled this distance before and doing it by night makes this even more of an achievement for him.
Far from falling asleep, and ending up in a ditch with his legs still turning; Andrew cycled part of the way soaked through in steady rain. However, once they reached Christchurch harbour, the skies had cleared and the view off the coastline of the Isle of Wight made the journey worth all the effort.
Last year, Andrew’s mum spent her final weeks at Duchess of Kent House and Andrew felt that taking part in a sponsored event was a chance for him to give something back: “I know from personal experience just how loving, dignified and far beyond the call of duty is the care the unit offers. Just thinking of the powerful, humbling, everyday acts of kindness I saw there still brings tears to my eyes.”
