Reading College students to play at RHM
As an official charity of this year’s Reading Half Marathon, Duchess of Kent House Charity (DoKHC) and its volunteers will once again be operating the water station at Liebenrood Road.

On Sunday, 20 March, as the runners past the halfway mark on the homeward stretch, they will be cheered on by over 40 volunteers and staff at the station outside the Duchess of Kent House.  This year, for the first time, students from Reading College will be performing for the runners, supporters, staff and volunteers.

Leo Brown, Program Leader Diploma in Music, Reading College said “We are delighted to be involved with both Duchess of Kent House Charity and the Reading Half Marathon.  As the local college we strive to be part of the community and working with our local hospice at one of Reading’s biggest events is a great opportunity for the bands.  The students, approximately 20 of them, are on the ND Music course at the college.  The course mainly focuses on music performance skills, music theory, composing, the music industry and key elements of music technology. Throughout the course of the two years, the students engage in a number of different performances, from covers to original songs, world music and looking at music from specific decades and/or genres. The music they will be presenting on the day will be a mixture of covers and originals.  Taking place outdoors and supporting charity, this performance is an exciting addition to our concert schedule.”

GAP Plant & Tool Hire in Reading will be providing a generator for the bands.

DoKHC staff and volunteers will also be helping out in the Kit Tents at the Madejski Stadium and sharing a marquee alongside other charities in the Marathon Village.  Here they will be offering a baggage holding service for DoKHC runners, so instead of queuing for the Kit Tent, the runners will be able to leave their bags with the Charity.

George Solly, the Charity’s Director of Fundraising said “We are very grateful to Reading College, GAP Plant & Tool Hire, all our volunteers and of course all those running in aid of Duchess of Kent House.  With the help of all these people we hope to raise thousands to support patients in need of end of life care in west Berkshire”.
