Tilehurst based Tina Millard is celebrating after scooping the £5000 rollover jackpot in last week’s Berkshire Hospice Lottery (BHL) draw.

The biggest prize since the lottery began in September 2009, was the second time Tina had won a BHL prize, in January 2010 she won £20.  Prior to this, the largest amount won was £2,900, which was scooped by Reading resident Natalie Allen in July 2010.

Tina has been an active supporter of the Charity since 2008 when her mother-in-law, Margaret Millard, was treated at Duchess of Kent House before she died.  Tina has been involved in raising money through fundraising events such as football matches at Reading Town FC.

Tina received the call informing her of her winnings on Friday, 15 July, which would have been Margaret’s 73rd birthday. She said ‘This was a great piece of news on what is usually a difficult day. I play the lottery as a way to give a regularly donation to the Charity, and winning this huge prize has been a wonderful surprise and a lovely way to remember Margaret.’

George Solly, Director of Fundraising at Duchess of Kent House Charity said ‘The lottery is a different way for us to fundraise. Giving local people the chance to win something enables us to give something back for all their support. For the Charity the Berkshire Hospice Lottery is a win/win activity.’

Profits from the lottery go directly towards funding hospice services in the west and central Berkshire region covering Reading, Wokingham and Newbury.
