DoKHC launches a new fundraising initiative

Last week, seven participating local Chartered Financial Planners and Duchess of Kent House Charity (DoKHC) staff got together to officially launch Financial Planning Month, the new fundraising initiative for the Charity.

DoKHC has enlisted the help of Chartered Financial Planners from Reading, Wokingham and Newbury who have agreed to offer their services at a free and discounted rate.

Financial Planning Month will run from 3rd October to 31st October 2011. Anyone can take part in the scheme by contacting one of the participating Chartered Financial Planners in October 2011 and by appointment they will receive an hour’s free advice (a donation to the Charity at this point would be greatly appreciated). Any work resulting from this meeting will be discounted by 20% (10% of this discount benefiting the client and the other 10% being paid as a donation by the Chartered Financial Planner to DoKHC).

George Solly, Director of Fundraising at DoKHC said: “Planning our finances and preparing for the future is a task we often leave on the ‘to do’ pile. At the Charity, we are always looking for new and innovative ways to fundraise, and following the success of our Wills Fortnight in May we decided to offer our supporters another way in which they can benefit us at the same time as helping themselves. Our Financial Planning Month does exactly that, offering people the chance to sort out their finances while supporting their local hospice charity.”

One of the Chartered Financial Planners taking part, Philip Grafton, Technical Manager - Financial Services at Blandy & Blandy, said “It is a pleasure to help the charity in this way. Chartered Financial Planners are becoming increasingly recognised within the profession as setting the gold standard for financial advice, which is underpinned by a strong code of ethics and a commitment to continually update their knowledge.”

Kate Parkinson, Special Projects Executive, DoKHC added ‘This is an exciting new fundraising initiative which (as far as we are aware) has never been tried before. In the current economic climate, it is important that people make the money they have work for them. We are very grateful to all the local firms taking part, and giving our supporters the chance to plan for their future.”
