It is we great sadness we announce the death of Duchess the Cat. Duchess died on Monday, 6 September, after a long illness. She had been a resident at the Duchess of Kent House hospice almost since its inception, over seventeen years ago.
The late Ann Haynes, then nurse and later housekeeper adopted Duchess as a kitten; she seemed abandoned, but liked playing at the rear of the gardens behind the unit on Liebenrood Road.
Over the years, Duchess was a comfort to many patients and relatives. She will be most famously remembered as the face of our 2008/09 notelet cards. The cards were based on a painting of Duchess by Jenny Gill, a supporter of the charity.
Duchess will be greatly missed by staff and patients, both past and present. |
