Duchess of Kent House Charity welcomes new Patron

Duchess of Kent House Charity is delighted to welcome its new patron; the Lord Lieutenant of The Royal County of Berkshire, the Honourable Mrs Mary Bayliss JP. Mrs Bayliss lives near Reading and is a former High Sheriff of the Royal County of Berkshire. She was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for the County in 2007 and became Lord Lieutenant of the Royal County in April 2008. Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenants are the representatives of the Crown in each of the counties of the United Kingdom.

Welcoming Mrs Bayliss to the Charity David Murby, Chair of the Charity’s Trustees said “We are extremely pleased to have Mrs Bayliss as our patron. In this time of austerity and with the changes taking place within the NHS, it will be a challenging time for us. The Lord Lieutenant is extremely hard working and has a high-profile which will help us to continue to raise funds for hospice care in the local area.”

Mrs Bayliss added “I am looking forward to doing what I can to support this important and valuable cause.”

The Lord Lieutenant’s voluntary and charitable interests are varied including being Patron or President of many voluntary, youth and charitable organisations in the County. The Lord Lieutenant also has a close involvement with the Armed Forces, the Emergency Services and the Judiciary.
