DoKHC Gets Thumbs Up From Reading Transport

Charity workers at Duchess of Kent House Hospice have given a warm welcome to Reading Transport’s decision to make the hospice their charity of the year for 2011.

Duchess of Kent House, a full service hospice with 16 in-patient beds, received over 85% of employees’ votes.

The hospice also has an outpatient department, three day therapy sessions and a MacMillan nurse service. In the 19 years since it opened over 15,000 patients have been treated.

The area served by Duchess of Kent House includes Reading, Newbury, West Berkshire and Wokingham as well as surrounding districts with a total population of nearly half a million.

Said Reading Transport’s Communications Manager Nikki Honer: “I am really pleased to announce that our charity this year will be Duchess of Kent House Charity.
“The hospice exactly fits our criteria of supporting a local charity for 2011. We very much look forward to growing a close relationship with the hospice and finding out how we can help.”

Following the announcement that Duchess of Kent House Charity is to be the company’s charity for 2011, George Solly, Director of Fundraising, has visited Great Knollys Street to discuss the year ahead.

George said “The Charity is absolutely delighted to have been chosen by the staff of Reading Buses and we plan many awareness raising and fundraising activities together this year with the emphasis on FUNdraising!”

Reading Transport hopes to raise in excess of £5,000 during 2011.
