Reading Bus Driver, Peter Adams raised an amazing £550 for Duchess of Kent House Charity by rowing 26 miles on a Rowing Machine!
On Saturday, 4 June, Mr Adams took 3 hours, 8 minutes and 41.8 seconds to row a total of 42.195 kilometres, the official distance of a marathon. The event took place at Rivermead Leisure Complex in Richfield Avenue, Reading.
48 year old Peter rowed eighteen half-marathons in his lead up to the fundraiser and had hoped to complete the 26 miles within 3 hours. On the day, however, with only 11 thousand metres to go he developed a painful blister which added to his finishing time.
Peter chose to raise money for Duchess of Kent House Charity as this was Reading Transport’s chosen charity of the year. The unit at Liebenrood Road is also where his father was cared for before his death in September 2007.
Peter said: “I have wanted to raise money for the hospice since they cared for my father, and with my work place supporting them this year, I felt that this was the perfect opportunity. My family, friends and colleagues have been great in sponsoring me for this wonderful cause.” |
